Exploring History (Fort Walsh today)

A step back in time...

After a short bus ride or walk down the hill, you will arrive at the reconstructed Fort Walsh.  The buildings are fully furnished to the 1880's era.

Interpretive programs for all ages and interests demonstrate the actions that occured here. The interpreters, dressed in period costumes, describe the duties of the Northwest Mounted Police.  Their goals were to uphold Canadian law, protect Canada's sovereignty on the prairies, implement Canada's Indian Policy, and manage Sitting Bull and his followers during the Lakota Crisis.

Sit back and take it all in, as you imagine life at Fort Walsh in the late 1800's.  How different would it have looked?  What would it have felt like to live here then?
