FIRE RESTRICTION IN EFFECT

FIRE RESTRICTION IN EFFECT

 

UPDATE: As of August 28, 2018 the Fire Ban for Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park - Alberta has been down graded to a Fire Restriction.

Please refer to the list of what is prohibitied under the current Fire Restriction

 

Prohibited:

Wood, charcoal briquette, propane and/or natural gas fires OUTSIDE designated fire pits.

Turkey fryers and/or tiki torches.

Permitted:

Wood, briquette and propane/natural gas fires CONTAINED WITHIN designated fire pits

CSa or UL standards

  • Portable propane fire pits when placed within designated fire pits
  • Liquid or gas fueled lanterns (enclosed flame)
  • Liquid or gas fueled stoves and BBQs designed for cooking
  • Patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radient) if deemed safe by a Conservation Officer


The fire ban will remain in place until further notice. Please check back for updates.

Bullshead Reservoir: Blue-Green Algae Advisory

  • A blue-green algae bloom has been identified at Bulls Head Reservoir in Cypress Hills Provincial Park. 
  • General precautions:
    • Avoid all contact with blue green algae blooms.  If contact occurs, wash with tap water ASAP.
    • Do not swim or wade in any areas where blue-green algae is visible.  
    • Do not allow your pets to swim or wade in these areas or to eat fish or fish trimmings from the lake.
    • Consider limiting human consumption of fish from the lake.
  • For detailed information, go to Alberta Health Services Blue Green Algae Advisory Information.
  • Blue-green algae bloom advisories are issued and rescinded by Alberta Health Services.  Typically, advisories are lifted in late autumn, when water temperatures are so cool that blue green algae growth is no longer supported.
