Perseids Meteor Shower

Look to the sky over the next few nights and you may just witness streaking meteors lighting up the sky. Of Course it is better in a Dark Sky Preserve like the Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park! Check out the link below for more info on the event.

The annual Perseid meteor shower, which peaks early on the morning of Aug. 13, typically has more meteors per hour than any other of the year. Here, a streak appears in the sky above a statue in Villarejo de Salvanes, Spain, in the early hours of Aug. 12 last year.

MTB Trails / Events

The local MTB Club, The 670 Collective, have done an amazing job of building some new trails this summer. Some stacked loop trails off Rangers and Mystery Trails. They are a technically challening with some small drops, berms and a really nice flow. The weather is a little cooler in the hills and particularly in the trees so it is a perfect time to come out and try them or prepare for the next event - The Battle Creek Showdown, 29th August.

Celebrate Parks Day in Elkwater this weekend

Celebrate Alberta Parks this Saturday (18th July) with Parks Day. Free Programs, Community Association fireworks, Bingo, Craft and Trade fair and an open mic session on the beach.

We often get the question "Why choose Elkwater in the Cypress Hills, Alberta over the more traditional locations in the Rockies such as Banff or Jasper or Kananaskis?" Well...the answer is simple...a busy day in Elkwater is a very slow day for these destination areas. People who come from Calgary, Edmonton or Lethbridge are often amazed at the peace and quiet that they get and the space to explore nature and feel like they have their own, private park. This summer we have heard more statements of "I can't believe we haven't tried here before" than we can count.

Alberta Parks has a huge variety or Parks, each with its own personality. However if crowds are not your thing...Elkwater may be just the place!
