Fishing / Game

Elk

Hunting and fishing are popular activities in the Cypress Hills. Hunters and anglers should check the Hunting and Fishing Guide for seasons and licenses before coming to the park.
Hunting is not permitted in the Centre Block of the park. All firearms must be encased while in the Centre Block.

Hunting in the West Block begins September long weekend as per the game guide seasons. Hunters should check ahead on road and fire hazard conditions by calling 1 (306) 662-5489. Recreational ATV/UTV use within Cypress Hills is strictly prohibited. All motorized vehicles must stay on designated hunting trails in the West Block. Snowmobiling is only allowed in the designated area in the Centre Block. Other recreation users such as equestrians, hikers and campers should be aware that hunting is taking place during this season; however, with some safety precautions all users can share the space.

The Cypress Hills offer some of the best trout fishing in Saskatchewan. Battle Creek, in the West Block wilderness area, is home to Rainbow, Brown, and the occasional Brook Trout. This is a perfect creek for fly fishers and ultra-light spin fishers.
Loch Leven in the Centre Block offers anglers Brook and Cutthroat Trout. The most effective method for fishing Loch Leven is fly fishing.

There is a wide variety of trout creeks within the Cypress Hills area, but outside park boundaries. Stop at the park visitor centre for information on where to fish. Anglers are required to have a Saskatchewan Angling License which can be obtained on line or at the park administration office or visitor centre. Angling licenses are not available at the West Block.

In order to get you out on the lake or into the field quicker, purchasing and printing your licence at home or from another vendor is strongly encouraged. Angling and Hunting licences are available online at http://www.environment.gov.sk.ca/licences
