Elkwater Visitor Centre has a range of organised and self guided programs and activities for you to get involved in. Whether you are learning a new activity such as geocaching, fishing, or cross country skiing, or enjoying the Interpretive programs to feed the mind, there is something to keep you and the kids busy. Guided Tours let you get into places you noirmally can't go. However if you would rather self guide the road trip guide below will help you out on things to see.
Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is an ideal location for wildlife viewing. Moose, elk, Nuttall’s cottontail, white-tailed deer, bobcat, red squirrel and mule deer make their home here and there have been rare sightings of cougar, as well. Early morning or evening drives on the roads and trails usually turn up some excellent viewing opportunities.
The Cypress Hills are a birder’s paradise all year long. The Oregonjunco, yellow-bellied sapsucker and ruby-crowned kinglet are among the more than 220 species of birds that wing and sing their way through this birdwatcher’s paradise. Spring and fall migrations are magnificent to observe in the hills and the Bird Banding Lab is a great place to drop in and see.
Our educational programs compliment the school curriculum and enhance the learning experience by giving practical environments in which to learn. Contact our Interpretive and Education Co-ordinator for more information.
